American singer, dancer, actress, and internet celebrity Joelle Joanie "JoJo" Siwa (/ˈsiːwɑː/; born May 19, 2003) is a multifaceted individual. She danced with her mother, Jessalynn Siwa, on two seasons of the reality TV series Dance Moms in 2015 and 2016. Siwa joined Nickelodeon in 2017 and appeared in a number of TV series and motion pictures. She released her own feature film, The J Team, and a number of children's songs under Nickelodeon. In 2020, she was listed among the 100 most significant individuals worldwide on Time's yearly list.

On May 19, 2003, Joelle Joanie Siwa was born in Omaha, Nebraska. Her parents are Tom Siwa, a chiropractor from Nebraska, and Jessalynn Siwa (née Lombardi), a professional dance instructor from Iowa.[4][5] Her only sibling is an older brother named Jayden Siwa, a real estate agent currently employed after having previously worked as a vlogger[6].

Siwa began her career as the youngest competitor and one of the top five finishers in the second season of Abby's Ultimate Dancing Competition, which was produced by the well-known Dance Moms star Abby Lee Miller.[7] She and her mother made an appearance on the show, and in week nine, she was removed.[8] Siwa made her TV debut on Dance Moms shortly after trying out for Miller's "ALDC" dance team in 2014 and getting accepted into the squad in the early 2015.

Siwa's songs "Boomerang" and "I Can Make U Dance" were released in May 2016. The movie "Boomerang" talks about cyberbullying.[9][11] Over 950 million people have watched and liked the video, which has also received over 5 million likes. Siwa won Vivid Seats' Breakout Artist of the Year award in 2018.

Siwa declared in 2018 that she would embark on D.R.E.A.M. There would also be additional performances in Australia and the United Kingdom. The tour was supposed to start on May 17 in Phoenix, Arizona. The tour was slated to end on June 26 in Austin, Texas, for the first leg, and to resume in Orlando, Florida, on July 10 for the second leg. August 20 was set aside as the final date in Vancouver, Canada.

In September 2020, Time published its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world [14]. In 2021, Fast Company published its Queer 50 list, which featured her as well.[15]

She, along with Matthew Morrison and Stephen "tWitch" Boss, was announced as a judge for the seventeenth season of So You Think You Can Dance on April 4, 2022.[16] She was revealed to be returning to the show as a judge for the eighteenth season on January 26, 2024. Nigel Lythgoe had previously declared his intention to withdraw from the upcoming season.

She was declared the winner of the GLSEN Gamechanger Award on September 9, 2022, in recognition of her advocacy work against bullying.[18]

Her official debut single "Karma" was released on April 5, 2024, to a mixed reception from the general public. She stated she had been waiting to rebrand for a few years and hoped to accomplish what Miley Cyrus accomplished with her Bangerz era in an interview at the IHeart Radio awards.[19] Her queerness and love of glitter are showcased in the music video, which features dancing lesbian couples on yachts and tropical islands while wearing dazzling bodysuits.
